19th Malta Open Championships

E-mail Print PDF

The SuperBowl is Malta’s only 20 lane facility and has been around since 1988. Situated in St. George’s Bay the facility is a stones throw away from the nightlife and entertainment capital of the country. Sandwiched between the most luxurious hotels in Malta, St. George’s Bay is an upscale sea side area offering a variety of eateries as well as entertainment options.

Welcome to the official pages for the 19th Malta Open Championships! This is where you can get all information regarding the tournament, and we will be updating continuously as the event approaches, but we’d like to also give you a little taste as to what a fantastic time there is to be had here in Malta during your stay.

The inaugural Malta Open was held way back in 1992, and quickly grew into one of the most popular tournaments on the international circuit. One of the main attractions was the friendly and welcoming atmosphere the tournament brought with it, as well as the superb organization on the part of the Eden SuperBowl team. The social side to the tournament is another part of the whole experience which is not to be missed, with many friends using the Malta Open as an excuse for an annual reunion party!

Those important factors have held fast through 18 editions of the Malta Open, bringing people back year after year. We’re looking forward to hosting you this June for number 19 which we know will be another fantastic event. The 2009 edition saw some format changes which proved very popular with our bowlers and are also in place for 2010. While the greatly preferred 12-game qualification remains, now you get the chance to replace your low 6-game series with a re-entry. There is no limit to that (subject to availability), which is a bonus as the higher your qualifying position, the further you advance towards the finals. There is also the ‘Desperado’ squad once the regular qualification round is over, which will give four ‘unlucky’ bowlers a last chance to qualify.

Location:

The Eden SuperBowl is just off the beautiful sandy beach at the idyllic St. George’s Bay, the only beach in the Maltese islands to have achieved the prestigious international ‘blue flag’ status. Part of the beach is managed by the luxurious InterContinental hotel which is right on the SuperBowl’s doorstep. St. Julian’s is the heart of Maltese life with the country’s top hotels, eateries and entertainment all within one area.

The Bay Street Complex:

Bay Street is literally just a few steps down the road from the SuperBowl, incorporating a hugely popular shopping and dining centre, as well as the 4-star Bay Street hotel. This year, the Bay Street has slashed it’s room rates for Malta Open bowlers, and it’s proximity to the bowling centre makes it a great choice.
